Hello folks! My name is Katie from ChooChoo Skadoo Quilts and I am so excited to share my project with the Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along.
I am so excited that Lindsay asked me to be part of this quilt along. I absolutely love her book Modern Bee. Its a great tool in teaching how to host your own successful quilting bee. The book has a block for each month of the year plus a bonus block to use for a charity quilt.
Today I am going to be showing you an optional lay out of the January block. This block is the Mosaic Tiles block. One thing I love about this block is that it calls for 5″ squares so you can use charm packs. And just my luck I had a couple of charm packs in my stash.
I used the Florence collection by FreeSpirit Fabrics. This particular charm pack came with 30 squares so I was able to make 13 blocks. I laid my quilt out 3 blocks by 4 blocks. To mix it up a bit, I chose to put sashing strips in between my blocks. I did 2″ strips between each block and added a 2″ (1 1/2″ finished) floating border.
Then to finish it off I added a 3″ outer border.
The quilt is smaller than the one in the book because I made fewer blocks, but I love the size. It will look perfect in my living room on the back of my chair. A nice cuddle size. I will send it to the quilter later this month. I can’t wait to show it to you when it’s all finished!
I had so much fun making this quilt and I can’t wait to make more quilts from this book. If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, you really need to! I hope you all join in on the festivities and I can’t wait to see what projects you come up with for the quilt along!!

Loved the book, in fact had just done a book review of it. I loved the Mosaic Block. It was fun and easy to put together but you could do so much with it 🙂
I like your alternative layout!!
This looks really great.
This looks wonderful! I started mine yesterday and I am going to end up with about the same size as yours since I am using a charm pack too. I am glad to see how yours looks so I know mine will be a good size also.
Thanks Michelle!
