Lets’ make a heart out of paper. Once done it will fit into an envelope and can be delivered to someone you love, or like very much. It can also be used as decoration. With this project, you will need… Well … just a piece of paper 12cm X 12cm or 5″ X 5″ and five minutes to complete the task, so even with procrastination time constraints, anyone can do it!

What type of paper do you need to make your heart?
Generally, a square or a rectangle is best for most models; this is the case in this tutorial. To make a square, cut a sheet in half, both ways (perpendicular to the grain). You can get away with using thinner paper if you are folding smaller models and need it to be lighter, but larger files require thicker paper so your fingers don’t break through when folding.
To start with origami, I recommend practicing on a printer or copy paper. For multiple sheets that must be folded at once (like for boats), consider using wrapping paper or tissue paper that’s thick enough not to tear easily. I recommend using paper made especially for origami because it lasts longer and there are many colors available.
