Instructions To Make A Bed Frame Out Of Pallets: Step By Step

Things you’ll need:

  • Wood pallets (as per the size of your mattress, but the pallets should be identical in size. If you want to make a tall frame, buy double the amount of pallets)
  • Sander
  • Sandpaper
  • Scew
  • Nails
  • Bolts
  • Glue
  • Drill machine
  • Hammer
  • Measurement tools
  • Wheels
  • Paint and paintbrush (optional)

Step one: Smooth Out The Edges Of The Pallets

Once you get the wooden pallets, smooth out the rough edges using a sander and sandpaper. Next, start painting the pallets if you want a colored bed frame. Let the paint dry for some time before you go ahead with the next step.

Step two: Time To Build The Base

Smooth Out The Edges Of The Pallets

Lay the pallets vertically on a flat surface. Make holes on both sides of the pallets with a drilling machine. Now attach both ends of these pallets on two long pallets using the drill and screws.

Ensure that the structure is sturdy enough to hold the mattress and your weight. Try to get on the structure to test its durability (make sure to wear shoes to avoid getting pinched by a screw).

Step three: Add Wheels For Easy Mobility

Adding wheels makes moving the bed easier. It’s completely optional, and you can skip this part (if you have no plans to move the bed). But if you prefer mobility, get some heavy-duty casters and attach them to the bed’s frame.

Step four: Paint the Frame to Make it Aesthetic and for Added Protection

Painting the wooden frame has multiple benefits, like protection against bugs. Start with priming the frame using a wooden primer, and let it dry. The primer smoothens the surface and holds the paint in place.

You can choose any paint color that you prefer, but take into account the decor of your room.

Once done, leave your bed frame in the sun till the paint dries completely, and proceed to the next step.

Step five: Arrange the Bed, and You Are Done!

It’s time to arrange the bed. Place your mattress, spread a nice bedsheet, keep cushions, and have a comfy sleep.

5 Easy DIY Bed Frame Ideas You Can Make Out Of Pallets

Here are five easy DIY bed frame ideas you may love for your bedroom-

  1. Pallet Bed Frame With A Headboard

If you’re up for some extra work and have a few extra pallets, you can try making the pallet bed frame with a headboard. The process of building the headboard is quite similar to building the frame.

You simply have to attach the pallets vertically or horizontally using screws in a frame. Paint the headword and wait till the color dries.

  1. Elevated Pallet Bed Frame

In case you’re not a fan of the low pallet frames, go for this elevated design. First, you need to make the base frame and stack more pallets in a similar manner on top of it. And your elevated bed frame will be ready.

But these types have a drawback. You can’t jump on these elevated bed frames as the frame may break.

  1. Pallet Daybed Frame

These pallet-framed beds make excellent daybeds too. Daybeds are basically sitting areas you may want to keep on your balcony or living room. Decorate with some cushions, a throw blanket, and a nice bed sheet, and your modern sitting area is ready.

  1. Wide Pallet Bed

This wide pallet bed design is one of my favorites. You need to make the frame a bit wider than your mattress to leave some space on one side. It looks super cool and makes space for some accessories too.

  1. Pallet Framed Swing Bed

Yes, you can make swing beds with pallet frames. It’s similar to a swing bed that you’d hang on a tree using ropes. A pallet-framed swing bed looks great in the backyard. Adding a nice blanket, cushions, and similar decor elements makes it look exquisite.

Pallet swing beds look great indoors too. You can keep one on your balcony and hang it using a nice sturdy rope.
